Our Lighting Emerging Professionals/Internship Program supports the future of our lighting industry by enriching the experience of students and emerging professionals who are exploring careers in lighting. Through educational and networking events, interns will connect with industry professionals and exposed to various facets of the architectural lighting industry in an attempt to help them expand their network, develop friendships with other emerging lighting professionals, and jump-start their lighting careers.

Weekly events will begin on May 28th with a final event scheduled for August 6th. There is no cost to attend these events, but as space is limited, attendance will be first-come first served, with a few events open to all students at large.

Ideal program participants are those engaged in a summer internship or co-op at a lighting design firm, engineering firm, lighting manufacturer, agency, showroom, distributor, or other lighting/design industry related company which aligns with our program's mission. Participants are not required to have a lighting background or be enrolled in an education program; we welcome candidates who may have graduated and/or worked in other fields who are interested in a career in lighting. The only hard and fast requirement is an interest in participating in the bi-weekly events, which will typically occur on Tuesday evenings.

There are several ways to participate and support this program:

1.      Let us know if you have an intern or co-op lined up for this summer, and we'll get them on our mailing list to be included.

Send the name and email address of your summer intern to our Internship Committee Liaison, Hess Smith: hess@availablelight.com  who will add them to our participation list for outreach throughout the summer.

2.      Let us know if you'd like to hear more about candidates or know of someone looking for summer internship.

We are once again operating a portal on the DLF-NE website to allow interested host firms and internship candidates to register and discretely post/check out internship. Please reach out to our Internship Committee Liaison, Hess Smith (hess@availablelight.com, 617.944.6800 x124) for more information.

3.      Let us know if you'd like to sponsor the Internship Program.

We rely on the generosity of our industry partners to provide resources for high-quality programming. In addition to accepting donations to sponsor the program monetarily, we are often looking for hosts for tours, assistance with transportation, and donations/lighting "swag." If you'd like to be provide support to our program in any of these facets, please reach out to Hess Smith (hess@availablelight.com , 617.944.6800 x124) to discuss available opportunities.

4.      Attend and promote our events!

The success of our program hinges on participation from our rich community of industry professionals - so please consider attending our events (and help us spread the word to others who care about the future of lighting too!).

Please note that while there is no cost to attend these events, space is often limited and attendance will be first-come first serve basis - so everyone is are encouraged to respond to RSVP/invitation requests promptly to ensure a spot at each.

A warm invitation to the kickoff and farewell parties is extended to all, and we hope that you will consider marking your calendar (now!) to join us for these events to show support for the program and meet this summer's interns.

We hope that you are as excited as we are about our Internship Program. By providing quality programming in support of our educational partners, our ultimate goal is to help make New England a lighting education and training stronghold to attract top lighting talent to our area. We encourage you to help us spread the word about our program and look forward to your support and participation.
