The Designers Lighting Forum of New England is dedicated to promoting lighting education and
honored to assist area schools in providing traveling scholarships to students that demonstrate a
passion for and understanding of lighting.
CALL FOR SUBMISSION
You might say that 2020 has been a difficult year. We have all had to change how we work and how we communicate, and we have all been in the dark for the past 6 months (8 months? 7 years? It’s a blur…) This change in our world has also certainly impacted the work we do and how we approach every facet of lighting from design and engineering to sales and manufacturing.
As you most certainly know, students have also been impacted heavily by the pandemic and the strife in our world today, so the Designers Lighting Forum of New England (DLF-NE) is excited to announce a pandemic-friendly version of our annual Pecha Kucha scholarship event.
Our topic this year is Light and Change.
How can light change architecture? How can light change you? How can light be used to affect change in our world? How has the light itself had to change?
While we all look forward to the next in-person conference where we can see each other again and experience new technologies and design first-hand, we don’t know when that might be. So, for 2020 we are offering three levels of cash prizes paid directly to your educational institution:
- First place: $2,000
- Second place: $1,500
- Third place: $1,000
To enter, students should send a 500-word essay to Brianna Cosgrove-Boire at Reflex Lighting (bcosgrove-boire@reflexlighting.com). Students need to explain why they think they deserve this scholarship and how they are planning to spend this money. These essays will be used as a qualifier and will not be shared at the event. Essay submissions are due October 26th, 2020. (Please mention “DLF Scholarship” on the subject of the email)
Selected participants will be will prepare a presentation of 20 slides with each slide on screen for only 20 seconds (Pecha Kucha style) and the slides should reflect the theme of Light and Change.
Please pass this along to any students or educators you think might be interested. More details about the event to follow.
Event Date: Thursday, November 12, 2020
Time: 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Location: Your living room!
- Scholarship winners will be chosen at the event on November 12th.
